The Schwarzlose machinegun was originally used against the Italians during World War one with the Austro-Hungarians.  After the armistice a number of these weapons were given to the Italians as war reparations.  The majority of those received went to colonial usage.  They were used in Ethiopia and in Lybia during World War Two by the Italians.  I've seen photos of these being truck mounted, in Lybia, as well as used singly.  This example was photographed in my backyard.  It is extremely heavy without the water in it.  I can imagine the native colonial or soldato cursing profusely at having to lug this thing great distances.

1930's Italian postcard of Schwartzlose being used in Ethiopia.
Period postcard of Italian colonial troops using a Schwartzlose in combat.  Evidently the machinegun has been knocked out and the colonials are resorting to grenades.
